The rules of the game is a conversation-performance in sequence shot between the writer and activist Brigitte Vasallo and the artist, filmmaker and researcher María Ruido about declassification, institutional violence and class performativity.
This piece was commissioned by Es Baluard (Museu d'art contemporani de Palma) and gave rise to an individual exhibition of the same title between March and August 2022.
The rules of the game delves into the difficulties, conflicts and class and gender contradictions that occur in the world of work in the artistic and cultural field and how, from a personal and intimate perspective, an attempt is made to respond to them.
This conversation is based on the idea that declassification is not only enjoying other economic and social conditions, declassification is also assuming certain regulations that amputate the possibility of internal movement, that blinds and cancels something that belongs to you. The gesture and the language have to correspond to this new performativity, totally political, which speaks of the place it should occupy.
